Before heading to the beach, you may want to stop at Fancy That or The Village Food Market to pick up a little lunch. After all, you may decide to stay a while. You're going to get hungry!

The entrance to the main beach is at the end of Beach Street, right at the center of town. As you walk down Beach Street you'll come to a bridge which crosses over the Ogunquit River. Cross the bridge and you will be at the beach parking lots. People generally aren't allowed on the beach at night, but many will bring their cars and sit in this parking lot. There's also a trolley stop and some benches. These are good places to strike up a conversation with someone who seems friendly.

Continue to the beach entrance. Read the helpful sign: Dogs are allowed off-season. Unfortunately nudity is never allowed. The water's almost always cold here, but it sure is beautiful. You might want to take your shoes off now and run across the beautiful white sand into the water. Depending on the time of year, there may be many or few people on the beach. If it's summer, you are likely to find yourself in the middle of a mob of people. Don't worry - they're mostly harmless!

Turn left and start walking. You want to walk past the volleyball net. If you have the urge, you can often get up a game of volleyball there. Just past the net the crowd should thin out and appear remarkably more gay. This spot is usually called the "g-section". I'm not sure why, and I've never heard anyone in town call it that, but you can. At this point you may want to put out your towel and get a little sun!

Behind the g-section is a set of stairs which leads behind the dunes to the riverbank. This is a very friendly area. It is also very beautiful. People sometimes stake out a spot here because on hot days it tends to be cooler than the sandy beach area. Be careful about going into the river: it is a clamming bed and those clams are sharp! If you step on one you're almost certain to bleed all over the beach.
When you've had your fill of sun, it's back to the beach entrance. Back to your inn to have a shower and get ready for afternoon cocktails at the Front Porch!
